Search Engine Optimization Tips

September 30th, 2009 by Sean Anderson

by Anne Torres

Introduction – If you are still learning about search engine optimization (SEO), you are probably a bit confused about the difference between on-site and off-site SEO strategies.

On-site tactics are more straight-forward for the beginner and are probably written about the most. I thought I would write an article and cover what I’ve learned. This pool of SEO knowledge comes from working with about 10 clients and another 10 personal web sites over an 18 month period.

To anyone with an SEO background, there are certain basic on-site SEO tasks that any web master, business owner, or Internet Marketer needs to be aware of. These include the following major components:

1) Title Tags – The title tag in your HTML meta code is the tag that tell the browser what to display in the title of the window at the very top of the screen. Because this text is so visible to the user, Google likes to rely heavily on this text as a clue as to what your page is about. As a result, it is a really important SEO strategy that your title tag be filled with keywords that are appropriate to the content of the web page. Furthermore, you really don’t want the same title tag on every page. This is not good for SEO. Instead, you want to have different keyword phrases in your title tags that properly identify the theme of that particular page. Remember, you are trying to help the search engines easily digest your content. That’s basically what SEO is. You want to aid them in their understanding of what this page is really about.

2) The first H1 tag – Similar to the title tag, Google will look at the first H1 text to appear on your page as a strong signal as to what the page is about. Use it wisely. Again, you want to place keyword phrases here that are thematically related to what the information on the page is conveying to the end-user.

3) The name of the page itself – As you name your pages in your web site, use plain English as much as possible for SEO. You will notice that WordPress uses this extensively in their blog software. This is no accident and WordPress is considered the best blog for SEO. For example, http://example.com/?On-Site-vs-Off-Site-SEO-tactics&AID=22 will perform much better for SEO than http://example.com/?AID=22. Why? Because there is descriptive text in the longer version of the page name that helps the search engine know what the page is about. Many people have written about issues around “dirty links” and SEO (links including system variable data such as AID=22 in the example above). I think it is better if you can design your system without any variable data at all. It just takes this SEO issue away. And it’s just easier for the search engines. It’s also easier for the end-user. However, there is no problem promoting pages via SEO with variable data in the links. I’ve been able to make both fly using the same SEO tactics with no problems. The search engines are smart enough by now to manage through that variable data. Just make sure your plain English is in there.

Looking For A Better Presence On LinkedIn? 5 Ways Lawyers Can Improve Their Profile

September 29th, 2009 by Franklin Thomas

by Jeff Berman

Social media is the hot topic on the web these days. Lots of companies and firms are jumping head over heals to get involved in each new wave and site that comes out. In my opinion, the first place lawyers should start building their presence is on LinkedIn. Utilizing LinkedIn gives you a valuable resource for networking. There are over 43 million professionals on LinkedIn and growing.

Below are five ideas for improving your LinkedIn profile:

1. You Only Get One Chance At A First Impression – It’s important that you put your best foot forward with your LinkedIn profile. First impressions are difficult to change, especially with the attention spans of online browsers. Pay close attention to the picture you use for your profile and the headline as well. Your picture should be professional and attractive. The headline you use should represent your legal position and needs such as if you are looking to join a firm, want help with a case, or even if you are hiring for your own practice.

2. Create A LinkedIn Url With Your Name – Make sure you help brand yourself by creating a custom LinkedIn url. Your LinkedIn url should appear as http://linkedin.com/YourName. If it doesn’t then change it. This will help users find you on LinkedIn as well as in Google searches.

3. Use Keywords In Your Profile – Add keywords to your profile. By using keywords, other lawyers or other industry professionals that use LinkedIn as a talent search engine will find your profile more easily. Using keywords for your niche in the legal world throughout your profile will give you a better chance of showing up on “people searches.”

4. LinkedIn Allows You To Add Links…Do So – On your profile you can add up to 3 links, so take advantage of this. Add links to your blog, you firm’s website, your Twitter account, etc. Make sure you rename the links so the user knows what they are clicking over to.

5. Get Involved In LinkedIn Groups – LinkedIn offers a ton of niche groups to get involved with. Do a search for LinkedIn groups using keywords for your legal niche. Join the relevant groups and post news article links, get involved in discussions, and just generally network.

September 28th, 2009 by Sachin Kumar Airan

by Sachin Kumar Airan

Your net pages are the key to getting a better ranking when it comes to search engine results. And to guarantee that you succeed at being on the 1st page of leading search engine results, you’ve got to take another look on the titles that you use on your webpages.

You can use different kind of title formats depending on the type and kind of traffic that you need to attract. These are some examples :

News titles

This sort of title format is generally utilized by bloggers and reports sites. Designate your fave applicant or Fare hike sparks insanity are a few examples of this format. One problem about this is they do no good when it comes to SEO since they don’t have any applicable keywords in them. The title alone doesn’t even attract much attention and doesn’t spark any interest.

Shopping titles

You can identify shopping titles since they contain a product name. Having a call for attention or mentioning benefits in the title is also attractive and can get the interest of browsers.Free shipping : ASUS Computer one thousand – only $300 and ASUS Computer 1000HE 10-Inch Black Netbook – 9.5 Hour battery lifespan are examples of this title format. Thru these titles you’re able to draw in folks who need to buy the item and folk who are on the lookout for additional info n the product.

Information Seeker Titles

This sort of format is alleged to be good for SEO standards. This kind of titles won’t attract buyers but will attract folk who are searching for additional information on a certain or cited subject.Example of titles in this format are How to lose pounds in a single month or ten paths to Celebrate an Anniversary. They are good since these sorts of titles can attract folks for a long period and can guarantee relentless traffic since folks are always hunting for informative the simple way to articles.

So you see, good titles can make a big difference and may affect the number of visitors and traffic and make google ranking that you get on your site. These are some tips on improving your titles :

1.ensure that your titles are detailed and it should be clear so that browsers will know what’s expected when they take a look at your page.

2.Put a call to action or benefits on your title as much as practicable.

3.Put the most significant info at the beginning of your title. The reason is because search engines may shorten your title in the search result pages

People judge search engine results by the web page title so if you want to add more traffic to your site, you should be able to post interesting titles to your pages.

Off-Page’ Search Engine Optimisation – Insights

September 28th, 2009 by Jason Kendall

by Jason Kendall

In our previous article, we covered the basic theory of SEO and talked about ‘On Page’ factors. In this article, we’re looking at the more crucial Off-Page optimisation. Think of it as appointing votes. A link is placed from one site to another. As though it’s suggesting the site has value.

There are 2 main bits to the link. First, the actual URL or web address of the page they are pointing to. And second, the ‘anchor text’ or ‘keyword phrase’ that is highlighted on the web-page for you to click. That page can then be seen as receiving one ‘vote’. To clarify, that’s a check in the box saying raise this site up the organic Search Engine lists for the phrase embedded in the link.

It always works in this way. The keyword phrase and targeted page are completely tied to each other. You can’t create a vote for a page without some highlighted anchor text. The anchor text notifies the Search Engine about the page’s content – and thus what search term it should come under. This is vital to understand: The anchor text controls which searches you would appear for.

For this reason, a highlighted link with ‘CLICK here to read more’ would serve no SEO purpose – can you see why? ‘Click Here’ becomes the keyword phrase we’ve created a vote for. Who on earth is going to search for that term? There isn’t anybody.

That’s the reason the anchor text must be right. It denotes which terms you’ll be ranked for. (Before we move on – are you aware that if you did search for Click Here, you’d see Adobe Reader Download listed first). Did they do that on purpose? Of course not! It’s simply that ‘click here’ features on so many sites to download Adobe Reader.

In short, anchor text phrases are always used by the SE’s to place a vote. And why not? Google wants to emulate what a real human being is looking for and would like to find. The content of your page isn’t necessarily relevant. You’ll rank for the terms in the anchor text phrases that point to you. That is how it is.

Of course, it’s not quite as simple as that… Because the SE’s also use the page title and wording of the page being pointed at to correlate the results. Along with a host of other things as well. (To give you an idea, the spread of the sites linking to yours, and their relevancy to your site).

However, let’s be quite clear – the most important thing by far for SEO is a stuff-load of back links! And they must come from a great diversity of sites, and have properly phrased anchor texts. How much ‘clout’ a donor site has is very relevant also – There is much more value in a back-link from a highly rated site than from one with no rating at all.

Take time to make sure you have the appropriate keywords in place. Do perform sufficient competitor and keyword research before you firm up on your strategy. But the bottom line is this: What would a customer of yours type in the search box in order to find your product or service? Crack that one, and you’ve got your correct anchor text and phrases.

Getting it right though takes a lot of measuring, testing and research. It’s so often the case that the phrase people expect is NOT what produces the most results. Different people view what they’re looking for in various ways. If you’re desperate for better quality sleep, the words ‘comfortable mattress’ might come into your mind. Whilst the line GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP could be used by someone else.

Would you really want to trust your marketing to vague ideas and feelings about what might be typed in? A lot of measuring, testing and research of each term is of vital importance. They’ll form the basis of ALL the visitors you’ll get to your website. Picture an advert featured in the Yellow Pages. You won’t receive any calls if you’re listed under an inappropriate heading. Search Engine Optimisation can only be effective with painstaking and detailed keyword research.

Document Management

September 27th, 2009 by John J Nash

by John J Nash

When we talk about our managing our documents, a computer system called Document Management System is there to help us, which is also known as DMS. This computer system contains a set of computer programs that are used in order to find and save electronic documents. It allows you to save your documents with images (even sometimes with no images) of paper documents.

In the computer language, there is some overlapping of comprehension for Document Management Systems, which is sometimes confused with Content Management Systems. Though there are some similarities between the two concepts, nevertheless, they are each characterised by a distinct set of attributes as well.

Document Management system has a lot of versatility in itself. This system is capable of managing everything from a small shoebox to a whole enterprise. When we talk about document management, it can include a large number of issues. Document management can be informal or paper based too, that can be performed by a single individual. On the other hand, a formal document management can be achieved using a computer.

The dimension of procedures that are used for document management addresses quite a few areas. First, there is the matter of location that answers the question that where the document will be saved or where do people need to search in order to get access to the contents of the document. This process of searching and keeping a document is just similar to finding it from a file cabinet; it’s just easier in its nature.

This procedure includes the phenomena of browsing through documents and searching for any particular information. Usually Document Management Systems use database in order to save any metadata about documents. As far as an informal environment is concerned, a file system is used in order to perform this job. So this system is as useful and handy as manual filing system in an office.

Not only that, but Document Management System looks after your document’s security too. It keeps your document safe from any unauthorised person, who is not allowed to see a particular document. However, if you lose your document due to any personal or computer problem, the system will tell you ways of retrieving your document.

Then there are areas of retention (that involves the function of maintaining the collection of documents in attribution to an information overload), archiving (future readability concerns), distribution (the proper arrangement of access of documents to the respective people who need them) and workflow (the fluency of the entire process, preventing any hindrances from blocking it). All of these areas are taken care of by document management systems.

Finally, one can say Document Management System is a complicated and vast procedure that looks after your document in every aspect, from arrangement to its security. However, its job is conditional to the proper functioning of the Document Management System.

As you exit from your online shopping never forget to ask for your Amazon coupon codes for these are very useful for your visit. These stubs are found in almost all virtual zones so you do not have much hassle looking for them. For your shopping needs you can always make use of your discount stubs and enjoy big discounts or freebies.

Most products and services are integrated with these freebie stuffs which have become effective advertising and marketing tools of most virtual site owners. These Amazon coupon codes cover the simplest product to the most expensive services found on the web. These discounts slips have dominated the net and are very popular in virtual markets.

Having Amazon coupon codes is a great way to save money especially with the online coupons. All you need to do to have these discount numbers is to copy the code then activate or deal it. Just like any other promotional slips these are subject to some limitations either in terms of geographical aspect or period of use or redemption.

In order to take advantage of these Amazon coupon codes all you need to do is apply the available codes to the shopping cart coupons box as you check out where you can see that these appear instantly. If you are a loyal customer of a certain website you shall always be given due appreciation though updates. These updates may be sent through your email address or through a phone call depending on your arrangement.

You must also be aware that coupons may change every now and then or Amazon may, without prior notice, simply opt to discontinue the promotions. In this case, your coupons do not work and you must therefore notify the concerned site so it can remove these bad coupons and keep only updated ones. To make it easier for you, you can also check on some sites where you find coupons listed on those sites as Amazon coupon codes.

Quit Your Dayjob For Clickbank?

September 26th, 2009 by Clerice K. Fayle

by Clerice K. Fayle

I saw one of the AdSense ads showing that proudly proclaimed Affiliates: $537 per day – Quit your job with ClickBank.

Now, just a darn minute – Don’t go thinking you can quit your job and become an affiliate marketer overnight. I’ll explain why:

* Affiliate Marketing can be tricky – You never know which way the market will go for the next 30 days, six months, year or especially five years. If you managed to make $5,600 in the past month doesn’t mean you will do that next month as well. Traffic to websites fluctuates, popularity wanes as does relevance of topics or products. I’ve seen sites making $250 a day suddenly drop to less than $20 for no apparent reason. You will put in a lot of work, your patience and persistence will be tried and your ingenuity tested to make sure your income continues to increase. Don’t even think about quitting your day job until you have over $10,000 in the bank with all your expenses paid. Don’t throw away a steady income for pie in the sky dreams.

* Competition is the name of the game with Affiliate Marketing. You won’t even be able to tell your friends or family the name of your websites for fear of competition. Competition that will take away from your income, and when you are spending money to make money it will really cut into your profits. Affiliate Marketing can be done from anywhere there is an internet connection. Your competition will come from the other side of the world or the opposite hemisphere wherever the internet is available. Are you happy with this competition? If not, don’t quit your day job.

* Affiliate marketing moves fast. It doesn’t take long to either lose money or to make it. As soon as the traffic comes in you have to be on top of things to make any necessary corrections. You can’t hang around the water cooler expecting things to change. Affiliate marketing requires you attention 24 hours a day. No weekends off either.

After all that negativity, I need to confess that I do work full time as an Affiliate Marketer. Many of the reasons you may decide to become an Affiliate Marketer follow:

1. Affiliate Marketing is SO Lucrative. In no other business can you make over $500 the day you start. I’ve seen a little eight page website with a few images make over $10,000 in profit in less than four months. Finding a way to help people do what you want them to do can provide absurd profits.

2. Affiliate Marketing changes daily. It is a new game from day to day. The challenge of trying out new things and seeing what works or doesn’t means Affiliate Marketing can be an exciting business. Once you see how much sales methods and marketing techniques change on a day to day basis you may become hooked. And you could end up running away from the competition.

3. Affiliate Marketing is TONS of Fun. It is hard not to enjoy being able to get up when I want, run errands, get my hair cut, come home and set up new marketing programs, check my stats and grin at my bank account. The knowledge that I’m being paid to loaf really makes life interesting. Did I mention it is fun?

In truth, an offline job provides steady reliable income. Continue to supplement your offline income while growing your Affiliate Marketing income. When the day comes that your are making more than $8,000 a month online, stick with the day job.
